In Review (end of my award)

Today is the last day of my arts award and i have enjoyed every moment of it!

Review:

Arts Activity:

My Activity was to learn and record a composition by my arts idol (Alex Gaskarth)

I then chose to design and produce a cd cover to go with the recording , incorporating and drawing from other art idols including gothic graphic artist Victoria Frances.

Arts Event:

I was able to attend a concert by the gothic metal band Ravenface my review is stored here on my blog page.

Arts Hero:

I studied Alex Gaskarth by researching on-line and producing spider diagrams

to gather an understanding of him as a person , i also studied his lyrics and learned them in order to perform and record a version myself .

I also researched my favourite graphic designer Victoria Frances to draw influence for the cd cover.

Arts Apprenticeship:

I got to work with professional graphic designer Jon-lee Martin to create my cd cover.

I was set tasks to come up with a concept and art direction for the piece which i have stored in my AA file.

I then got to use the digital editing programme Photoshop with an apple mac computer , with guidance and training from Jon in order to finish the final piece.

Review:

I have learned a great deal from my experience taking part in an arts award and have been reassured of my natural talent as a young budding artist.

I have been frustrated with art in school as i felt unable to include my personal tastes and styles but the arts award experience has given me my confidence back.

I hope i can continue with arts awards in the future.

Arts Event Review

RAVENFACE/FLEETWOOD/31.10.09

For my Art event review i chose to spend Halloween evening watching the band Ravenface in Fleetwood near Blackpool.

The band are friends of mine and were happy for me to attend as a guest in order to review their gig.

I chose this event as the band play "gothic metal" and with it being halloween i was expecting scary stage costumes.

The band played for just over an hour opening with my favourite song "bleed a prayer"

This wasn't the first time i had seen the band live but i will it say it was my favourite show to date.

I was left a little disappointed that the band did not dress up for halloween but this was my only negative observation of the night as a whole.

I highly recommend watching live music and i can't wait till i can legally go to concerts and gigs on my own or with friends my age.

Seeing young musicians performing their art in a public place was inspiring and it is something i will pursue in the future.

For part C of Katie's Arts Award she investigated her hero Alex Gaskarth , who originally wrote and recorded "six feet under the stars"

On 17th November Katie discussed with me what she had learnt about him including where she obtained the information, why she liked him and what she thought of him since investigating.

Katie's communication was clear and concise.

COVER FOR MY RECORDING FINISHED !

This week I have finished my cd cover! Im so happy with it!

Earlier in my blog i posted some photos that i had edited myself, incorporating vampire themes and decided to re-visit these themes for my final cover, i think Halloween may have had an influence too.

Jon-lee my arts award adviser is also a professional graphic designer and was able to show me all kinds of great techniques in order to achieve my desired look.

We used photoshop , illustrator and an apple mac computer to create these images .

Next step....Printing!

Back after half term break!

After a great week off school i'm back at the chorley community center , working on my arts award . Today we are working on a cd cover for my recording of "6 feet under the stars"

Using photoshop 7 we have produced some mock up covers , using rough photos we took in the studio. Now as i have an idea of the art direction i will work together with Jon to produce my final piece.

Hi my name is Katie Watson and i have been working for the last 3 weeks on my arts award at the Chorley community center.

My aim was to concentrate on art and music as these are my favourite subjects.

Week:1 I researched the the two art styles that i enjoy the most , Gothic Art and Tattoo Art

Myself and my adviser Jon-lee Martin used the internet to research these art forms and then had a go at replicating them ourselves.

Week:2 Jon noticed that a lot of my favourite pass times were connected to music and so we both decided that we should include this in my arts award work.

The center where we work has a recording studio and i decided i would like to record a song.

I had never recorded my self singing before but was encouraged by Jon and so along with the engineer Joe i performed and recorded "six feet under the stars" by one of my favourite bands "all time low"

Week:3 I thought of a perfect way to connect my two chosen arts.

Since i had recorded a song and burned it to a cd i decided that i would like to produce a cover for the cd , incorporating my chosen visual arts.

Using graffiti walls and spider diagrams we began to plan out my cd cover.
